Mau Loa o Mauna Ulu lookout is about 6 miles down Chain of Craters Road in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, a short distance beyond Hilina Pali Road. The lookout is at an altitude of 817m (2680 feet) above sea level and give a view over the 1969-74 flow.
A short distance further down the road are Muliwai a Pele and Kealakomo (610m / 2000 feet) lookouts. The road continues down the flank of the volcano and then along the coast until it stops abruptly where it was buried by lava in recent times. From there you can walk out across the uneven lava to where new lava flows into the sea through a series of 11km long lava tubes from the Pu'u 'O'o vent in the East Rift Zone.
