Muliwai a Pele - Chain of Craters Road - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Panorama taken from Muliwai a Pele veiwpont on Chain of Craters Road in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The viewpoint gives excellent panoramic views over the surrounding lava flows as they cascade down the hill on the way from the Mauna Ulu cone to the sea.

Muliwai a Pele - Chain of Craters Road - Hawaii Island visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Muliwai a Pele - Chain of Craters Road' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Hawaii.
The Muliwai a Pele lookout lies between the Mau Loa o Mauna Ulu and Kealakomo lookouts on Chain of Craters Road in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. This viewpoint overlooks lava flows from 1969 and the 1969-74 eruptions from Mauma Ulu. Here the lava descends Holei Pali and continues towards the sea. The 1969 flow did not quite reach the sea, but the later flows did.
Chain of Craters road continues down to the coast until it reaches a point lava flowed over the road in recent times. You can park here (and use a toilet) and then walk out over fresh lava to a viewpoint near which lava enters the sea, having flowed through a series of 11km long lava tubes from the ongoing Pu'u 'O'o vent eruption in the East Rift Zone.
