This is much more impressive in real life than this panoramic picture shows. The colours are amazing. The road down is very steep, it feels like a 1:1 gradient as you walk down to Waipio Valley itself. Having driven a few hours to get here we were keen to start off towards the Hiilawe Falls. The hill was not so appealing at the end of the day coming back up though. Verdict - Waipio Valley is stunning and deserves more than a week, let alone a day, to explore.

Travel and Getting There:
Take the H19 north from either Kailua-Kona on the west coast of Hawaii Island, or Hilo on the east coast, to Honoka'a at the north of the island. From here take the H240 9 miles to the lookout at the end of the road.
