This panoramic image was shot somewhere in Waikoloa. I can not remember exactly where. The most prominent thing about the town seemed to be the golf course. Waikola is obviously a new development on Hawaii Island. If you look at the satellite view then the town stands out as a dramatic patch of green against the surrounding black lava. The residential roads branch off and end in cul de sacs, kind of reminiscent (to me) of the alveoli of the lungs. It is also obvious, both from the satellite image and while I was there, that this area is still developing and growing. You can just see the outlines of new roads and lots in the lava.

Waikoloa is a small town on Hawaii Island on Waikoloa Road which rises from the coast near to the Royal Waikoloan and Hilton Waikoloan Village resorts up to the 190 Mamalahoa Highway.

Travel and Getting There:
Take Highway 19 north from Kailua-Kona and turn right onto Waikola Road just after passing the junction for the Royal Waikoloan and the Hilton Waikoloan Village resorts. Waikoloa is about 6 miles along the road.
