Hapuna Beach borders the exclusive and luxurious Mauna Kea Resort. This part of the beach has sun beds from the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. The beach is also open to the public, who tend to use the southern end.

Panorama taken from the northern end of Hapuna Beach close to the Mauna Kea Resort. The beach is about 1/2 a mile long and 70m wide and is a part of Hapuna Beach State Park. The Mauna Kea Resort contains two top luxury hotels, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. The resort has nine restaurants, an oceanside tennis garden, spa facilities, and two 18-hole golf course of championship championship standard. These are reputed to be among the best golf courses in the world. Mauna Kea Resort also has 10 luxury neighbourhoods containing lots for family homes and condominiums.

These travel directions to Hapuna Beach are from Kona. Take Highway 19 north from Kona for about 30km. The turnoff for Hapuna Beach is signposted, close to Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, just past the Mauna Lani Beach Resort and Puako Bay.
