Hapuna Beach - Southern End - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
The southern end of Hapuna Beach State Park is open to the public. Here families play and relax in the sun on one of the most popular beaches on Hawaii Island. The area often has quite a breeze blowing offshore as winds come down from the slopes of Mauna Kea, and it is very easy to get badly burnt in the sun without realizing it. Often the cloud layer continues to roll down from the volcano but does not cover the beach itself as the air warms up and the clouds dissipate on the way down. This often provides quite a dramatic backdrop to the beach. The luxury hotels of the Mauna Kea Beach Park are found at the northern end of the beach. This panoramic picture shows the length of the beach and the clear blue seas for which Hawaii Island is famous.
