The Abbey - Sherborne - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panoramic image was taken from the front of Sherborne Abbey church. Being made of local ocre ham sandstone, the church has a golden colour. The picture shows that many of the old buildings of Sherborne were built in this stone, and you really get the impression of stepping back in time here. Even the gates to the church date from the 1750's. In front of the church is a Gothic style structure, called the Digby Memorial which dates from 1885 and has four bronze statues. The Sherborne War Memorial cross is to the right of the church. My position was in line with the cross, so it appears in the picture as a tall column behind the low hedge.
