Weymouth Beach - West End - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panoramic view over Weymouth beach was taken from the far west end on the Esplanade, near to the ferry terminal that links Weymouth with St. Malo. This end of the beach is the busier part. Here there are more organised events and beach sports. There are also a number of fair ground rides and seaside attractions. The west end of the beach is also closer to the hotels, Weymouth town centre, shops and restaurants. At the time I took this picture there was a tent with a food festival on the roadside. This tent obscures part of the entrance to the Weymouth harbour and marina. From this viewpoint the whole of the bay is visible, and then the coastline continues round to Kimmeridge and Lulworth Cove. Portland Bill is hidden to the west. Weymouth and Portland are going to host the 2012 Sailing Olympics. Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour are widely recognised as having the finest small boat sailing waters in northern Europe.
