Photographer Description of Lambeth Bridge

Lambeth Bridge - Further Information

Lambeth Bridge crosses the River Thames in the center of London between Westminster Bridge and Vauxhall Bridge, next to the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament), Victoria Tower Gardens and Albert Embankment. Lambeth Bridge is painted in a red colour scheme similar to the colour of the seating in the House of Lords which is in the southern end of the Palace of Westminster. Westminster Bridge is, in contrast, painted in the green colours of the House of Commons.

The first version of Lambeth Bridge was erected in 1860. The current bridge was opened in 19 July 1932 by King George V. At either end of Lambeth Bridge are pineapples mounted on obelisks, a tribute to John Tradescant the younger, a Lambeth resident who supposedly grew the first pineapples in England.

Attractions near Lambeth Bridge include Lambeth Palace, Tate Britain and Museum of Garden History.
