Inside St George's Church - Portland - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
I liked the interior of St. George's church on Portland. The decoration was quite simple, befitting the setting and use of local stone. The pastel shades of blue and cream gave a relaxing feel to the church. I was particularly struck by the two pulpits stationed one on either side of the church. Maybe they had two preachers who would battle it out with words. I was told by the guide present that the minister would conduct the bulk of the service from one, and then ascend to the other to deliver the sermon.

St George's Church was built between 1754 and 1766. For further information about the church please see the panoramic picture taken outside St George's Church. The church has been restored since the 1960's. The interior is unusual in that there are two pulpits on either side of the nave about half way down the church, as seen in this panoramic image. The interior woodwork is painted in light shades of blues, with a stained glass window at the eastern end. Access to the church is from the south.
