Highcliffe Beach - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This part of the coastline is constantly under threat of erosion from the sea. The shingle beach is partly protected by numerous groynes spaced at regular intervals along the coast. You can see the zig-zag path leading up the cliffs to Highcliffe Castle. The land mass rising above the horizon of the sea a little to the left of the groyne is the Isle of Wight. On a good day the white chalk cliffs of the Needles are clearly visible, brightly lit by the afternoon sun.

Panoramic picture taken from Highcliffe Beach near to Highcliffe Castle. Both zig-zag and stepped paths ascend from the beach to the castle and grounds. Highcliffe Castle is a popular wedding venue, and the views from the castle overlook the Solent and Highcliffe Beach. To the west along the shore lies Mudeford and Hengistbury Head, within easy walking distance, while to the west lies Barton on Sea (famous for fossil sharks teeth). The shingle beach continues all the way along the coast to Hurst Castle near Lymington, which looks out over to the Isle of Wight. There is pay-and-display parking available at Highcliffe Castle.
