Aptly, this is an evening panorama of Poole Harbour taken from Evening Hill, on the east side of the harbour. There are a couple of benches here and an old, but worn and mostly illegible, plaque describing the view. This panoramic picture was taken around 8pm on a July evening, it is still light, but the sun is now very low over Purbeck throwing much of the harbour into silhouette.

Evening Hill is a small park overlooking Poole Harbour, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The main reasons for stopping here are the panoramic views you can get across Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island, Sandbanks and the Purbeck Hills. There is parking along Shore Road next to this rest area. Evening Hill can be a good place for bird watching, as there are often Bar Tailed and Black Tailed Godwits, Redshanks, Greenshanks, Shellduck, Dunlin, Curlews and many other wading birds in the shallow waters of this part of Poole Harbour. A little further around Poole harbour to the left is Whitley Bay which is very popular with the Kitesurfing and windsurfing communities.
Car: From Poole take the B3369 Sandbanks Road around Poole Harbour. This becomes Shore Road. From Bournemouth take the A35 road to the Fitzharris roundabout at Westbourne, and then The Avenue (B6035) past Branksome Chine and through Canford Cliffs to Sandbanks. Then turn left onto Shore Road.
