Wat Ket - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panoramic image of Wat Ket was taken in the early afternoon under an overcast sky. One of the numerous elephants giving tourists a ride is strolling along Thanon Pathon. The temple is in ruins, and the chedi has lost all decoration.

Wat Ket in Ayutthaya stands opposite Wat Phra Ram on Thanon Phrasisanphet. There is very little information about this temple. It stands on the northern corner of the junction of Thanon Phrasisanphet and Thanon Pathon, next to the House of House of PKhum Khun Phaen. To the south is the Ayutthaya City Pillar Shrine, and to the east is Wat Phra Ram.
Wat Ket is built on the site of a former prison compound. It used to be visited by condemned people for a final chance to pray before their execution. This was carried out in numerous ways including trampling by elephants to being cut into pieces with swords. Royalty were usually executed by being placed in a silken sack so that their blood would not touch the ground, and then beaten to death with a sandalwood club.
