Wat Phra Si Sanphet - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panoramic image from Wat Phra Si Sanphet was taken from the edge of the western end of the raised area on which the three main chedis stand. The nearest chedi contains the remains of King Ramathibodi I. You may to just be able to see me sitting on the steps of the middle chedi. The steps up to the platform is very steep, and very worn, but from here you get a good panoramic view over the rest of Ayatthaya.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet - FURTHER INFORMATION
Wat Phra Si Sanphet - Ayutthaya visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Wat Phra Si Sanphet' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Central Thailand.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet is in the northwest of the old town of Ayatthaya, close to Wat Phraram and Wihan Phramongkhon.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet is one of the most important temple compounds in Ayatthaya. It was built in the royal palace compound, much like Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok]. This became a monastery during the reign of King Ramathibodi I, who built the first bell-shaped chedis in 1492. There are 3 large chedis on the site, each of which contains the ashes of different kings. In the eastern chedi are the ashes of King Boromtrailokanath (father of Ramathibodi), the middle one contains the ashes of his elder brother, King Borommaracha III, and in the last one are his own remains. The chedis are built on a raised area with steps leading up to the areas between them. There used to be a wiharn structure built between them.
