Arc de Triomf - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panorama shows the Arc de Triomf in Barcelona. The panoramic image was taken just to the south of the Arc and also shows the view down the promenade to the Parc de la Ciutadella. Taken fairly early in the morning, the area has yet to fill up with tourists and is quite relaxed.
Arc de Triomf - FURTHER INFORMATION
Arc de Triomf - Barcelona visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Arc de Triomf' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Catalonia.
The Arc de Triomf stands at the northern end of large rectangular plaza that leads down to the Parc de la Ciutadella in Barcelona. The Arc was built in 1888 for the Universal Exposition, which took place at the Parc de la Ciutadella. It was intended to form a majestic entrance to the exhibition.
The Arc de Triomf is made of colourful brick, which makes it stand out from the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and other similar arcs around the world. The design was by Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas, and the style is known as 'Mudéjar', which has it's origins in Moorish architecture. The front frieze on the Arc was made by Josep Reynés and shows Barcelona welcoming visitors. At the top of the Arc de Triomf is a stone carving of the Coat of Arms of Barcelona. The twelve statues of women adorning the Arc represent fame.
