The picturesque roads in this area of the island afford views all the way down into Paguera. Puigpunyent is signposted from the Via de Cintura ( the palma ring road ) going in both directions. The road from here to Esporles is very windy making it slow going.Puigpunyent - Further Information
Puigpunyent rests on the eastern slopes of the Tramuntana Mountains of Mallorca, quite close to Palma de Mallorca. It is well known as an area of exceptional beauty, surrounded by vineyards and agrotourisumus hotels (hotels that are often in converted country houses and farms that provide the visitor with a taste of traditional Mallorca). One of these hotels is the 5 star Hotel Gran Son Net, which overlooks the village from a palatial location in the mountains.There are several mountains nearby, which makes Puigpunyent an ideal base from which to explore the area. The mountains that surround the valley of Puigpunyent include Puig de Galatzó (1035m), Mola de la Planícia (932m), and Fita des Ram (833m). The slopes of these mountains are mostly covered with pine forests and 100 year old holm oak trees. The Puig de Galatzo has a very sharp peak, which may have given the town the name, as 'podinum pungentem' translates to 'sharp mountain' or 'acute hill', hence 'Puigpunyent'. Further on down the valley is the small and picturesque village of Galilea.
Travel Directions and Getting There:
Puigpunyent is on the cross roads between Esporles and Galilea. From Palma take the MA-1040 north towards Esporles for about 2.5km. Then take the MA-1041 to Puigpunyent. This is a narrow and windy road, and the traffic can be quite slow.
