Plaça Reial - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panoramic image was taken in the middle of the Plaça Reial, one of the most popular squares in Barcelona. The picture shows the fountain at the center of the square and the numerous hotels / restaurants that line it. The square is planted with palm trees and is quite relaxing, though there is no shade except under the restaurant umbrellas during the day. These umbrellas are clearly visible if you zoom in on the satellite image of the Google map of Barcelona.

Plaça Reial (Spanish: Plaza Real) is one of the mose famous squares of Barcelona set in the heart of the old city. It is set right in the heart of the main tourist area, surrounded by hotels, bars and restaurants. The plaça is just of the Rambla dels Caputixins (referred to as Las Ramblas), quite near to the sea front. The square has a touch of Gaudi, found in the lamp posts. Being so close to Las Ramblas, the square is always busy and full with tourists and those who seek to encourage them to part with their money.
As can be seen in this panorama, the square is almost entirely surrounded by classical buildings, most of which contain restaurants and hotels. The picture shows the fountain in the center of the square. Quite often there are various street performers entertaining the diners at the restaurants. Plaça Reial really wakes up at night, when it is beautifully lit and busy. The main entrance to the square from Las Ramblas is through the narrow alleyway seen beyond the fountain in this picture.
Nearby attractions include the Mirador a Colom (Christopher Columbus monument) and the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
