It was built between 1906 and 1912 for for Roger Segimon de Milà and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. Today Casa Milà - La Pedrera is owned by the bank Caixa Catalunya, who sponsor numerous events there. From the outside the undulating balconies have been likened to a series of waves, or a cliff face with a series of caves. The iron-wrought balconies were improvised on the spot by Josep Maria Jujol. Casa Milà was dubbed a quarry (Pedrera)during construction. This name has stuck and people more frequently now refer to the building as 'La Pedrera' rather than 'Casa Milà'. Address: Travel Directions and Getting There: Comments and Reviews.
