Fundaciķ Antoni Tāpies - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panorama was taken of the front of the Fundaciķ Antoni Tāpies on Argo. The building stands out because of the unusual attachments to the top which is reminiscent of barbed wire, and quite chaotic. The Panoramic picture shows the view over the road to the Foundation and some of the surrounding buildings. This is a popular attraction for those who come to Barcelona for the arts.

The Fundaciķ Tāpies was created in 1984 by Antoni Tāpies to promote the study and knowledge of modern and contemporary art. The Foundation is housed in a building designed by Lluís Domčnech i Montaner and takes a 'plural, interdisciplinary approach and aims to set up cooperative ventures with experts in different fields of learning to contribute to a better understanding of contemporary art and culture. The museum contains both permanent and temporary exhibitions, holds lectures and film sessions and publishes it's own books to fulfill the aims of promoting contemporary art.
Among the top 3 Barcelona museums name for a single artist (Picasso, Mirķ, Tāpies), this foundation is housed in an important early modernista building by Domčnech i Montaner. Though constructed in 1885, Tāpies inaugurated the building as a museum in his name in 1984 to promote contemporary art. This experimental Catalan artist - second only to Mirķ among regional 20th century masters - donated a large portions of his works, which lay side by side other contemporary artists.
The collection of the Fundaciķ Antoni Tāpies consists mostly of the works donated by Antoni and Teresa Tāpies, though a few other donors have also contributed. It continues to grow as the Tāpies' make new donations each year.
The Fundaciķ is on Argo, just around the corner from Casa Batllķ on Passeig de Grācia. Argo joins Passeig de Grācia about half way between Plaįa de Catalunya and Casa Milā / La Pedrera.
