Casa Vicens - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This was an interesting panoramic image to take, as the street is very narrow and full of parked cars. The panorama shows the outside of Casa Viscens, an early Gaudi work. The casa is quite a distance from the touristed center of Barcelona where the most popular Gaudi buildings are found.

Casa Vicens is another of the buildings in Barcelona designed by Antoni Gaudí. It was his first important work and is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Works of Antoni Gaudí". Casa Vicens was built between 1883-1888 as a family home for Manuel Vicens, a successful industrialist.
The building shows marked Moorish (or Mudéjar) influence, particularly at the top. It is made of undressed stone, rough red bricks, and colored ceramic tiles which are mounted in checkerboard and floral patterns. This was done in acknowledgment of Manuel Vicens, who owned a brick and tile factory. The yellow, zinnia-flowered tile, designed by Gaudí, was manufactured by Vicens for the project. The building is still owned by the family and is not open to the public.
