Golden Square is one of two public squares found in Soho, in the West End of London (the other square is Soho Square. Resting just to the east of Regents Street and north of Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, Golden Square is one of the great historical squares in Westminster. In the middle of the square is a statue of George II, one of only two public statues of this monarch.
It is thought that Golden Square was originally laid out by Sir Christopher Wren in about 1670, quickly becoming the focus of many embassies in London during the 17C and 18C. Today, much of Golden Square is surrounded by office buildings, architects and lawyers. During the summer months the square is often full of workers from the surrounding buildings having lunch.
