Parc Güell - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
The panorama shows the first courtyard inside the entrance to Parc Güell. The panoramic picture shows shows the dominant impact of Antoni Gaudi on the park layout and architecture. Two singular and strange buildings stand either side of the gate, and the main staircase is guarded by Gaud's famous Dragon Fountain. Far above is the main terrace offering panoramic views over Barcelona. Multicoloured tiles abound everywhere, providing a dazzling visual feast. Thankfully the entrance to Park Guell is free. Leave at least half a day to enjoy what this park has to offer.
Parc Güell - FURTHER INFORMATION
Parc Güell - Barcelona visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Parc Güell' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Catalonia.
A panorama from the inside the entrance of Park Güell, situated on the hill of el Carmel in Barcelona. Park Güell is a 18 hectare garden that was commissioned by Eusebi Güell as a park for the Barcelona aristocracy. The park is full of architectural elements designed by Antoni Gaudí . The park was built between 1900 and 1914 and contains many of Gaudi's most famous structures. It is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Works of Antoni Gaudí'. So prolific are the artist's works here that it could well be called 'Parc Gaudi'. While Parc Güell was originally intended to be a restful and quiet place, it is now one of the most visited and popular tourist attractions in Barcelona, rivaled only by tow other Gaudi works, the Temple de la Sagrada Familia and Casa Mila.
Highlights of the park include the multicolored mosaic dragon fountain at the main entrance, the fantastically tiled mosaic benches on the Main Terrace which overlooks the park. Near to the 'la Torre Rosa', the house in which Antoni Gaudí and now a museum containing some of his furniture, are the strange arches of his famous Colonnade.
Parc Güell holds numerous events during the day. A full list of these events and further information about the park and other Gaudi attractions in Barcelona are available from the Tourist Information Office in Plaça de Catalunya.
