Piccadilly Gardens - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panorama from Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester was taken late in the afternoon in the autumn of 2007. The sun was sinking low behind the Piccadilly Plaza and the Piccadilly Hotel (Jarvis Piccadilly Hotel). This was the beginning of the rush hour, people crossing the square to the various bus and tram terminals. The panoramic image opens facing the Jarvis Piccadilly Hotle and the tall buildings of the Piccadilly Plaza. To the north is a statue of Queen Victoria.

The Piccadilly Gardens used to be the site of the Manchester Royal Infirmary Hospital. The square was revamped between 2001 and 2002, with new grassed areas, fountains and some sculptures. Piccadilly Gardens is now a major pedestrian thoroughfare for people heading to and from work, and little used for anything else. It is surrounded by appartment shops and hotels. Nearby are the Jarvis Piccadilly Hotel and the Portland Hotel (part of the Thistle Hotel chain). There is a large Debenhams store on the northeast corner.
Travel Directions and Getting There
