River Cherwell - University Parks - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This part of the River Cherwell is a very relaxing place to be, and quite popular with people who sit on the lawn, drinking and eating food while laughing at the punters who attempt to navigate their boats around the sharp bends in the river just here without crashing into either each other, the banks or getting entangled in the bushes overhanging the water. Combine the potential of leaving one's pole sticking in the mud and it can all get quite entertaining. Punting is one of the semi-obligatory pass times for anyone living in, or visiting, Oxford.

This panorama shows one of the channels of the River Cherwell as it forms an 'S' bend on the southeast corner of University Parks in Oxford. At this point there is a weir on the river, and punters must get out of their punts and navigate them down a series of rollers beside the river to move from one level to the next.
