Queen Street - St Aldgates - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
The idea behind this panoramic picture was to get a view of the outside of Carfax Tower, but it was too tall to fit in fully. However, the panorama does show the other buildings at this historical junction, and is a central reference point for those visiting the city. The famous Covered Market, Clarendon Shopping Centre and Westgate Shopping Centre are all close by. Cornmarket Street is now the main shopping street in Oxford containing most of the usual high street brands.

This panorama shows the junction of Queens Street and St Aldgates in Oxford city centre. On the northwest corner is Carfax Tower (just to the right of all the road signs), a great place for a panoramic view over Oxford skyline . Continuing round is a good view down Cornmarket Street, at the end of which is St Michael at the North Gate which also has another tower with a viewing platform. Next is the High Street, and rising above the buildings here is the spire of St Mary's Church, which gives the best panoramic views over Oxford available. The last road is St Aldgates, which heads south to Christ Church College and the War Memorial Gardens. This this junction is really at the heart of Oxford, linking many historical buildings with the main shopping areas.
