The boating lake of Castle Park contains small boats and peddalos. It is very popular with children during the summer. In the distance up the hill is Colchester Castle Museum, one of the main tourist attractions in Colchester. Just a little further north is the River Colne. There is a panorama looking over the Upper Castle Park from the grounds behind Colchester Castle.

There are entrances to the park from Ryegate Road and the Castle Museum.
