Jardin des Tuileries - West Fountain - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This picture shows the view around the western end of the Jardin des Tuileries, close to the Place de la Concorde. In the distance in the image is the obelisk which stands on the Place de la Concorde. The pond shown in this photograph is octagonal, as clearly seen on the satellite view of the Google map of Paris used. The clouds were beginning to close in, and by the time I had reached the other end of the gardens it was overcast.

There are two large ponds in the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris, one at the west end and one at east end. This panorama shows the pond at the west end of the gardens. From here there is a view of the Obelisk in the Place de la Concorde which stand at the beginning of the Champs Elysees that leads to the Arch de Triomphe. There is another, smaller, arch, the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel at the eastern end of the Jardin des Tuileries, in front of the Louvre Museum. The west pond is flanked by the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume to the north (a contemporary art museum), and the Musée de l'Orangerie (an art gallery of impressionist and post-impressionist paintings) to the south.
