The Panthéon of Paris was built between 1764 and 1790. It was commissioned by King Louis XV in honour of Saint-Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris, who had cured him from a mysterious illness. Completed just before the French Revolution, this church was then converted to a mausoleum and is now a tourist attraction. Famous French people buried here include Emile Zola, Victor Hugo, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Voltaire, the scientists Pierre and Marie Curie, and Andre Malraux, a minister under Charles de Gaulle. The design of the Pantheon in Paris is based on the world famous Pantheon in Rome.

Numerous hotels have capitalized on the name, and the Hotel Pantheon is just one of these.
