The Palais du Luxembourg (Palace of Luxembourg) in Paris stands at the northern end of the massive Jardins do Luxembourg (gardens of Luxembourg). These gardens are among the most popular with Parisians. The palace itself was built for Marie de Medicis in 1615. It remained a royal palace until the end the reign of Louis XIV. After the French Revolution it became a prison. In WWII the the Palais du Luxembourg acted as the headquarters for the German Luftwaffe. Today it is the home of the French Senate.
