The Monnaie de Paris is the coin mint of Paris. it is one of the oldest institutions in France, with records going back to the edict of Pitres (864). Originally situated in the Palais de la Cité (City Palace - see Palais de Justice), the mint moved to the Marais, at Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie, and then to rue de la Monnaie. Finally, under Louis XV the Mint was moved to the current location in the Hotel de Conti.
Today the Monnaie de Paris also contains a museum to the history of the Mint, and an associated shop selling coins and medals. The museum is closed on Mondays.
