Pont d'Arcole - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panorama was taken from the middle of the Pont d'Arcole, with the main focus of the picture being the view upriver towards the Ile St Louis and across to the Ile de la Cite. The river is quite busy, there are both tourist cruise boats and a barge on the Seine in this panorama.
Pont d'Arcole - FURTHER INFORMATION
Pont d'Arcole - Paris visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Pont d'Arcole' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Paris.
The Pont d'Arcole is a bridge across the River Seine in Paris linking the Place de Hôtel de Ville with the Île de la Cité, joining the island next to the Hôtel-Dieu, close to the Notre Dame Cathedral. Being so close to some of the most popular tourist attractions in Paris, the bridge is quite busy with people. From the bridge it is possible also to see the smaller Ile Saint Louis further upriver, which is joined by the Pont St Louis to Square Jean XXIII on Île de la Cité. The next bridge downriver is the Pont Notre Dame.
River cruises often pass under this bridge, as shown by the boat in this panoramic image. Discounts on such cruises may be available with the Paris Pass. Pont d'Arcole was the site of a famous battle of Pont d'Arcole which took place between 19000 French soldiers led by Napoleon Bonaparte and 24000 men of the Austrian army, commanded by Major General Josef Alvinczy. The French were victorious after a rouse that convinced the Austrians that reinforcements had arrived and routed them.
