The church was not very busy, it being early in the day, and the long exposures used to take the pictures meant that moving people were not captured by the camera. This panorama shows the interior of the La Madeleine church (L'église de St-Marie-Madeleine), which dominates the Place de la Madeleine in Paris. The church is just to the north of the Place de la Concorde and close to the Opéra Garnier and the Place Vendôme. The design ofLa Madeleine is inspired by the Maison Carrée at Nîmes, one of the best-preserved Roman temples in the world. It is a Neo- Classical building and the exterior is surrounded by 52 Corinthian columns 20m high.

In this panoramic image you can see the sumptuous church interior. Again columns are prominent, marching down the naves and aisle. Above the high altar of La Madeleine is a statue depicting St Mary Magdalene being carried up to heaven by two angels, carved by Charles Marochetti.
