Il Gesł Church - Rome visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Il Gesł Church' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Roma.
Il Gesł was the principle Jesuit church in Rome. It stands on Piazza il Gesł, very close to the Monument a Vittoria Emauele II and the Roman Forum and a little south of the Pantheon. The full name of Il Gesł is 'Chiesa del Sacro Nome di Gesł' (Church of the Holy Name of Jesus).
This panorama shows the inside of the church, first conceived Saint Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits Society of Jesus in in 1551. Construction began in 1568. The most striking part of the church is the ceiling fresco 'Triumph of the Name of Jesus' by Giovanni Battista Gaulli (not visible in this panorama). The church contains nuerous side chapels, and two of them are visible in this panoramic image. Also visible in the picture is the high altar and the painting above it.
The design of the dome of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Church in Paris was based on the design of Il Gesł.
