Whagarei is a major city in Northland, on the North Island of New Zealand, north of Auckland. Then main local attractions include Whagarei Falls, a waterfall north of the town centre, Whangarei Heads and the Poor Knights Island. The city also boasts the AH Reed Kauri Park, with a treetop walk. Southeast of Whangarei is the Waimahanga Walkway, an old railway track, and to the east of the city are the Abbey Caves which contain glow worms, similar to those found in the Waipu Caves.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Whangarei is on the IH1, about 2.5 hours north of Auckland. It is about 3.5 hours south of Cape Reinga, the northernmost tip of New Zealand.
