Vunilagi is a small village about 50Km east of Savusavu on Vanua Levu island. The road is mostly a dirt track and the journey out takes about 2 hours. This panorama shows the local village school and the school children. Children often have to walk for over an hour from surrounding houses to come to the school, and the road conditions can be very bad, particulalry during the rainy season of Fiji.The Rotary Club of Savusavu helped install a fresh water supply to the school and associated houses, a task that involved laying about 3km of new pipe from a source high in the hills above the village to a new tank and then linking this to a refurbished toilet and shower block. Fresh clean water is an invaluable resource to the school. The Rotary Club of Savusavu is a small, dedicated group willing to work in very hard conditions.
Travel Directions and Getting There:
A local bus runs between Vunilagi and Savusavu 4 times a day.
