Beach and Lagoon in Fiji - Vanua Levu visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Beach and Lagoon in Fiji' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Vanua Levu.
This lagoon is typical of many in Fiji. The panorama was taken on Vanua Levu, the second largest island of Fiji. The lagoon is 13.1 km east of Savusavu, close to the village of Nagigi. There are numerous holiday resorts along this road, the most well known being the luxury and exclusive resort of Namale.
The lagoons were formed over thousands of years as coral ringed the island and built up the protected area. The smaller islands around the edge of the lagoon are made of uplifted coral. Just beyond these is the reef boundry, where waves from the pacific ocean break upon the reef.
In this picture are two young women who are carrying a net used to fish in the lagoon when the tide is low. At low tide it is possible to walk all the way out from the beach to the small islands. The reef shows up clearly on the satellite image of Fiji onthe Google map.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
A local bus runs between Nagigi and Savusavu several times a day. The journey to the lagoon takes about 20 minutes.
