Just to the west of Mabel Cove the coastline becomes rocky, and there is a shallow protected lagoon surrounded by dramatic rock formations formed by prolonged action of salt water on the limestone rock. This panorama shows the lagoon and the rock formations in the area. This was a great and isolated place for a picnic lunch.

There is a shallow lagoon to the west of Mabel Cove is on the northern side of Rottnest Island, about 9km from Thomson Bay. Eagle Bay lies a little further west.

Either cycle or by bus from Thomson Bay, which is about 9km away, and then a short walk.
