Sedona - FURTHER INFORMATION

Sedona - Sedona visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Sedona' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Arizona.

Panorama overlooking the town of Sedona near to the Oak Creek Canyon in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. This panorama was taken from Airport Mesa Hill, one of the famous sandstone "Red Rocks of Sedona", also known as the Schnebly Hill rock formation and only found in the Sedona area.

Schnebly Hill was named for Theodore Carlton Schnebly, the first entrepreneur and business developer in the town who, as postmaster in 1902, enjoyed the privilege of naming this new town after his wife, Sedona Miller Schnebly.

As this panorama opens, behind the town you can see Greyback, the largest dome-topped hill, also known as Thunder Mountain. To the right, Coffeepot. Behind the tree in the opposite direction, the square-shaped hill is called Courthouse Butt. Other intriguing names for rock formations nearby include Snoopy, Peanuts, Cathedral Rock, Cow Pie and Rabbit Ears.

Sedona is a spaciously laid out but small city with a mild climate, it's landscape popular with hikers and well documented in many paintings, photographs and indeed used as a backdrop in movies including Midnight Run. Its nearly 2-million acre Coconino National Forest has Ponderosa Pine trees, great for exploring trails and wildlife habitats and the largest continual pine forest of it's type in the World. After a day's hiking here or in the neighbouring State Parks, the city has a thriving music scene offering Jazz festivals, chamber orchestras, poetry, galleries and arts festivals.

Outstanding photo, can almost feel the heat and dust. Amazing colours - how somewhere so austere can still be so beautiful.
