This panorama was taken from the beach at Purangi Reserve, at the mouth of the Purangi River. As can be seen in the river, the beach and park are popular, with people relaxing on the sand or playing in the water. Within the park are a number of picnic and BBQ areas.

The Purangi Reserve is at the mouth of the Purangi River, at the western end of Cooks Beach and close to the Purangi Boat Launch. There is a lot of holiday accomodation, self catering cottages and apartments nearby, as the area is a very popular holiday destination within New Zealand. The secluded Purangi Garden Accommodation is on the opposite side of the estuary hidden behind the trees.

Other nearby attractions include Cathedral Cove, Hahei Beach, Hot Water Beach and Whitianga.

Car: From the 25 highway, take the Hot Water Beach Road and then the Purangi Road to Cooks Beach. Then follow the Captain Cook Road to the end.
