This panorama was taken from a sand spit at Purangi Reserve. This sand spit is exposed at low tide and gives a good view both up the Purangi River and out to the ocean. To the north you can see one of the river front accomodation cottages of the Purangi Garden Accommodation.

The Purangi Reserve is at the mouth of the Purangi River, at the western end of Cooks Beach and close to the Purangi Boat Launch. Back up the beach are cars parked at the Purangi Reserve

Other nearby attractions include Cathedral Cove, Hahei Beach, Hot Water Beach and Whitianga.

Car: From the 25 highway, take the Hot Water Beach Road and then the Purangi Road to Cooks Beach. Then follow the Captain Cook Road to the end.
