Cottesloe Beach - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Cottesloe Beach is another long, straight stretch of sand on the coast of Perth. This panorama was taken from the beach itself and shows an old pavilion on the shore. As can be seen from the picture, body boarding is a popular pass time here.
Cottesloe Beach - FURTHER INFORMATION
Cottesloe Beach - Perth visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Cottesloe Beach' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Western Australia.
Panorama of Cottesloe Beach, a small sandy beach 15 mins drive from the center of Perth. It runs for 1.5Km between the Mudurup Rocks and the Swanburne beach and it is claimed to be the birthplace of surfing and life-saving in Australia, although this assertation may be more indicative of local pride.
Cottesloe Beach is known for it's relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. Near enough to be easily accessible from the center of Perth city, it is called the "hidden gem" as it is mostly overlooked by visitors and preferred by locals. It's well served by regular buses and a nearby train-station and there is limited free parking on site.
The regular swell in from Rottnest Island brings good surfing and bodyboarding waves. However the swell tends to be gentle enough to allow snorkeling to explore the rocks and reef just offshore. Sea and weather conditions for this beach are continually posted on a local website.
The beach front is lined with pine trees offering cool shady areas and nearby there are a good selection of cafes, restaurants and amenities. This area is subject to political debate about how best to develop, or indeed prevent the development of, further buildings serving this increasingly popular area. The pavilion was originally intended for bathing and built around 1905 but is currently disused.
