His Majesty's Theatre - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Panorama of the front of His Majesty's Theatre. I hope it is only irony that the shop on the other side of the street, seen in this panoramic image, specialized in Dr. Seuss merchandise.

A sweeping marble staircase, a spectacular domed roof with gold and red embossed ceiling rose, ornately guilded foyers - the decor of this beautiful theatre pleases the senses as much as it's famous performances do. Built in 1903 with all the finest stylings of the grand European theatre houses, this Gold Rush era building was designed to only the highest and grandest of standards. Indeed, its magnificent domed roof could be opened in the fine weather to allow patrons to refresh in the cool air of warm summer evenings, transforming this venue into a luxurious outdoor theatre.
As you would expect, all manner of performances are hosted here and information is widely available both from the ticket office and at information kiosks around Perth and online. Extensive refurbishment in the 1980s saw the opening roof permanently sealed but the best of modern facilities sympathetically integrated whilst preserving the grandeur of it's original design. The theatre has disabled access via the main entrance and tours of the building itself are also available outside of performance times.
