Google Map St Mary's CathedralPhotographer Description of St Mary's CathedralSt Mary's Cathedral looked little more than a building site at the time I took this panorama. It shows what will be the interior of the newly refurbished church once construction is complete.St Mary's Cathedral - Further InformationPanorama taken during the construction work for the rebuilding of St Mary's Cathedral, the main church in the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth.Construction of the first Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary began in 1863 with the foundation stone of the cathedral being laid by the Bishop of Perth. Built by Benedictine Monks who walked in from Subiaco daily, this cathedral has seen extensive and frequent renovations in its relatively short history. In August 2006, it closed for construction to begin on a completely new design. In the interim, the congregation use St Joachim's Church in Victoria Park. Nearby is the Anglican St Georges Cathedral on St Georges Terrace. The view from their Cathedral Tower shows St Marys Cathedral red brick facade as work begun in 2007 prior to reconstruction in an entirely new design. Comments and Reviews.
