Panorama of Heirisson Island, a small island in the Swan River in Perth.
Heirisson Island is the central point underneath the two road bridges of the Causeway, part of Highway 5. When the Swan River Settlement was founded in 1910, a crossing was needed to connect the settlement with Perth city. The mud flats here were wide and shallow, easily damed. Over time, the bridges were improved causing the river channel to narrow and deepen. Land reclamation work on the mud flats has changed this estuary into the recognisable Heirisson Island as seen today.
Now a nature reserve with wild Kangaroos seen here cooling in the shade, tour Heirisson Island's parkland with our panoramas of the Island lake, the unusual stunted trees and the magnificent view of Perth city behind Langley Park and the Wetland Park.
