Hahei Beach - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
It takes the best part of a day to drive from Auckland to Hahei, especially when sightseeing en route. This panorama shows the reward at the end of the drive - a long, sandy beach set in a bay with little islands offshore.
Hahei Beach - FURTHER INFORMATION
Hahei Beach - Coromandel Peninsula visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Hahei Beach' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Waikato.
Hahei is a very popular tourist attraction on the Coromandel Peninsula of the North Island of New Zealand. The region is very busy during the summer holiday seasons, when people flock to enjoy Hahei beach and the surrounding attractions. Naturally, there are hotels, camp sites, holiday cottages and cabins around Hahei to suit all budgets.
Hahei beach itself is is a long, sandy beach, flanked on either ends by headlands. Much of the southern half is backed by the large Hahei Holiday Resort camping ground.
The area around Hahei Beach is well worth exploring. Nearby is Cathedral Cove, one of the 'must see' natural attractions of Coromandel. The southern headland is Te Pare Point, which has a Maori Pa, and offers spectacular views over Hahei, the beach and the surrounding coastline. Also close bay is Hot Sand Beach where, at low tide, people dig holes in the sand and sit in water naturally volcanically heated. Then there is Cooks Beach and Shakespeare Cliff.
