Hereheretaura Pa in Evening - Coromandel Peninsula visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Hereheretaura Pa in Evening' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Waikato.
Hereheretaura Pa is a Maori fort. It is situated on the very tip of Te Pare Point, a short walk from Hahei Beach. This vantage point offers a panoramic view of the surrounding coastline. The cliffs here drop straight into the sea. On the landward side Hereheretaura Pa is defended by a ditch and bank. The remains of these, the living platforms and storage pits are still visible.
A number of islands can be seen in the bay. Due north of the point is Mahurangi Island, with the tiny Te Tio Island just to the right of it, and both Motueka and Poikeke Islands further offshore to the left. Nearer inshore, at the mouth of the Wigmore Pass, is Te Karaka Island. Down the coastline to the the south are various sea stacks. Further back on the ridge of Te Pare Point is Hahei Pa, another fort.
