Te Pare Point - FURTHER INFORMATION
Te Pare Point - Coromandel Peninsula visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Te Pare Point' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Waikato.
Te Pare Point is next to the southern end of Hahei Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula. The Te Pare Point Reserve contains two 'Pa' - ancient Maori hill forts. Of these Hereheretaura Pa is on the very tip of Te Pare Point. The second is Hahei Pa, which is on the top of the ridge of the point.
The reserve also offers good panoramic views over the surrounding coastline and several islands can be seen in the bay. Due north of the point is Mahurangi Island, with the tiny Te Tio Island just to the right of it, and both Motueka and Poikeke Islands further offshore to the left. Nearer inshore, at the mouth of the Wigmore Pass, is Te Karaka Island. A number of sea stacks line the cliffs to the south.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
At low tide walk along Hahei Beach and then up a series of steps to the path leading to Te Pare Point and Hereheretaura Pa. At high tide walk up Pa Road from Hahei to the beginning of the track in the reserve.
