It also has a strong international reputation for excellent craftsmanship, with jewelry, glass, painting, sculpture and other forms of at being produced locally to a very high international standard, often inspired by the local beauty.

The main city of the region is Victoria, a popular tourist destination in it's own right. Victoria is renown for having very British architecture, a little slice of England outside of England in many ways. It is well known for the mild climate and whale watching, with whale watching tours leaving the harbour several times a day. Victoria is also famous for the small harbour ferries, which sail slowly between major points of interest, like the wharf near The Empress Hotel and Fishermans Wharf, giving a guided tour to passengers en route.
