Greater Victoria is the local name given to a region on the southernmost tip of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It encompasses both the town of Victoria itself and some of the surrounding area. This is the landing point for visitors to Vancouver Island, as both the international airport and the ferry terminals are found here. From Victoria there are also sea planes and helicopters that serve routes to Vancouver and Seattle, as well as other parts of Vancouver Island. Vancouver Island remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in Canada, with thousands flocking to explore the wonders and sights. It also has a strong international reputation for excellent craftsmanship, with jewelry, glass, painting, sculpture and other forms of at being produced locally to a very high international standard, often inspired by the local beauty.
The main city of the region is Victoria, a popular tourist destination in it's own right. Victoria is renown for having very British architecture, a little slice of England outside of England in many ways. It is well known for the mild climate and whale watching, with whale watching tours leaving the harbour several times a day. Victoria is also famous for the small harbour ferries, which sail slowly between major points of interest, like the wharf near The Empress Hotel and Fishermans Wharf, giving a guided tour to passengers en route.
