Brienz Rothorn Railway - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This is the restaurant at the top station of the Rothorn mountain railway, Switzerland's oldest steam cog railway, which opened in 1892. Climbing to 2,350metres, sometimes at walking pace, it takes an hour to reach here from the station by Lake Brienz which you can see below in the valley.

Panorama overlooking Lake Brienz, taken from the summit station of the Brienz Rothorn Mountain Railway. Switzerland's oldest steam cog railway has been hissing, huffing and puffing up the 1,678 meter long ascent of Rothorn Kulm since 1892.
Situated at Brienzer Rothorn, the point where the three cantons of Bern, Lucerne and Obwalden meet and above the small town of Brienz, the railway gave access to one of the most famous lookout points in the Bernese Oberland.
As the oldest surviving steam-powered train, it is class H2/3 meaning the two of it's three axels are power-driven. The route is 7.5Km long and in some parts has a gradient of 1in4, or 25%. However, being a living museum of a bygone age for railway enthusiasts is by no means it's only attraction. The hour long journey takes in breath-takingly romantic views which make this unique journey quite unforgettable.
