Broadway Tower - FURTHER INFORMATION
Broadway Tower - Broadway visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Broadway Tower' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Worcestershire.
Panorama taken near Broadway Tower, an 18thC Gothic Folly near Broadway Village which stands as the second highest point on the Cotswolds Ridge (after Cleeve Hill). Indeed, from the roof it is reputedly possible to see 13 different counties - even into Wales - on the finest of days!
The tower is 55ft or 17m high but stands at an altitude of 1024ft or 312m above sea level, thus enjoying the commanding views for which it is famous. Built as a folly in 1799 by James Wyatt for Lady Coventry to satisfy her curiosity to know whether a beacon on that hill could be viewed from her estate in Worcester, some 22m or 35Km away. Indeed, it could.
It's attraction now is certainly it's fine views over the countryside and also draws visitors interested in a previous resident, the designer William Morris, after whom one room is named and furnished with decor typical of his style.
Today it is open during the April - October season to visitors for an admission fee. It can also be hired as specialty accommodation or as a limited capacity venue.
